Cold facts about air conditioners

Air conditioners were originally invented for printing factories
In 1902, Willis Carrier invented the first modern air conditioner, but its original intention was not to cool people down. Instead, it was to solve the problems of paper deformation and ink inaccuracy caused by changes in temperature and humidity in printing factories.
2. The “cooling” function of an air conditioner is actually the transfer of heat
Air conditioners do not produce cold air. Instead, they “transfer” the heat inside the room to the outside through compressors, condensers and evaporators. So, the air blown out by the outdoor unit is always hot!
The inventor of the car air conditioner was once an engineer at NASA
One of the inventors of the automotive air conditioning system was Thomas Midgley Jr., who was also the inventor of leaded gasoline and Freon (which was later phased out due to environmental issues).
4. Air conditioners have led to a significant increase in box office receipts for summer movies
Before the 1920s, cinemas were doing poorly in summer because it was too hot and no one was willing to go. It was not until air conditioners became widespread that the summer film season became the golden period of Hollywood, and thus “summer blockbusters” were born!
For every 1℃ increase in the air conditioner temperature, approximately 68% of electricity can be saved
26℃ is the most recommended energy-saving temperature, but many people are accustomed to setting it to 22℃ or even lower. This not only consumes a lot of electricity but also makes them prone to catching a cold.
6. Can air conditioners affect a person’s weight?
Some studies suggest that staying in a constant-temperature air-conditioned room for a long time, where the body does not need to consume energy to regulate body temperature, may lead to a decrease in metabolic rate and indirectly affect weight.
7. Is the air conditioner filter dirtier than the toilet?
If an air conditioner filter is not cleaned for a long time, it may breed mold and bacteria, and even be dirtier than a toilet seat! It is recommended to clean it every 12 months.
