The principle and function of the combination of heating tubes and compressors

1. The role of auxiliary electric heating
Make up for the insufficiency of low-temperature heating: When the outdoor temperature is too low (such as below 0℃), the heating efficiency of the air conditioner’s heat pump decreases, and even frosting problems may occur. At this point, the auxiliary electric heating (PTC or electric heating tube) will be activated, directly heating the air with electrical energy to enhance the heating effect. Rapid heating: Compared with relying solely on compressor heat pumps for heating, electric auxiliary heat energy can increase the outlet air temperature more quickly, improving the user experience. Energy-saving control: Modern air conditioners usually only activate electric auxiliary heating when the temperature is extremely low or the compressor cannot meet the demand, to avoid excessive power consumption.
2. The function of the compressor is divided into the core of the heat pump cycle: The compressor compresses the refrigerant, causing it to release heat in the condenser (the indoor unit during heating), achieving efficient heating. Low-temperature adaptability: Some high-end compressors use crankcase heating tapes (compressor heating tapes) to prevent liquid refrigerant from entering the compressor during cold starts and causing “liquid hammer” damage.
3. The coordinated operation of the two: First, temperature linkage control: When the temperature of the indoor heat exchanger is lower than the set value (such as 48℃), the electric auxiliary heating automatically starts to assist the compressor in enhancing its heating capacity. Secondly, in extremely low-temperature environments, the compressor may operate at a reduced frequency. At this time, the electric auxiliary heating provides heat to prevent the system from overloading. The third is energy-saving optimization: In areas with centralized heating in the north, electric auxiliary heating may not be necessary at all. However, in areas without heating such as the Yangtze River Basin, the combination of electric auxiliary heating and compressors can ensure stable heating.
4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Including electric auxiliary heating faults: These may be caused by relay damage, temperature sensor failure or open circuit of the heating wire. A multimeter should be used to test the resistance. There is also compressor protection: Before the air conditioner that has not been used for a long time is turned on for the first time, it needs to be powered on and preheated in advance (for more than 6 hours) to ensure that the liquid refrigerant in the compressor evaporates and avoid liquid compression.
